Pre-eminent law firm
Our standing within the legal profession has been built over 70 years. Many of the values, characteristics and defining qualities from Arnold Bloch Leibler's early beginnings continue to shape the firm as it stands today.
While our storied history is long, we are a modern firm. We see the law as an instrument of change, as a way forward. Our partners and lawyers are often at the centre of law reform and regularly advise on landmark matters.
Our difference is often best demonstrated by the way we work and our approach to problem solving. We pride ourselves on providing strategic guidance and solving complex issues related to our clients’ commercial interests, legal position and reputation. We do not try to be everything to everyone - rather, we strive for excellence in our chosen areas of expertise.
Every client, regardless of size, truly matters and is important to us. We are renowned for advising entrepreneurial businesses (ASX-listed, family owned and international) and for our work with private clients. We also enjoy long-standing relationships with a select group of professional advisors - including accountants, private equity firms, insolvency practitioners, private bankers and overseas-based specialist law firms.
Celebrating 70 years
In 2023, the firm celebrated its 70th anniversary. After 70 years, much has changed but our purpose has stayed the same - to assist our clients when it matters most.
Small firm feel, with big firm reputation
With offices in Melbourne and Sydney, the firm is operated as a professional practice rather than a corporatised business. The firm has a small firm feel with a big firm reputation, possessing influence within legal, business and political circles. We recognise that our success is defined by the quality of our people, our clients and of our work.

Making a contribution in the community is one of the firm’s core values. We are immensely proud of our community partnerships and of our Public Interest Law practice.
We engage with not-for-profit and charitable organisations responsible for Indigenous, communal, social, artistic, sports, medical, religious and environmental causes.
Our Public Interest practice led by Peter Seidel, is renowned in the market as is our commitment to community. The practice demonstrates our deep and enduring commitment to giving back to the community. We believe this is both a privilege and a responsibility.
In addition to the provision of pro bono legal services, many of our lawyers commit themselves to community based directorships, advisory committees, guest lectures and external fundraising activities.
Indigenous Solidarity
For over 30 years, Arnold Bloch Leibler has worked with Aboriginal and Torres Strait communities, organisations and individuals, often pro bono, on matters and issues that go to the heart of their resolve to achieve Indigenous led self-determination. It is not simply what we do - it is part of our identity as a firm, valued and respected by lawyers and staff at all levels, by clients, competitors and policy makers.
In this important area of our practice, under the leadership of our Senior Partner, Mark Leibler AC, we work to assist Indigenous clients to realise opportunities and overcome challenges and obstacles. The energy and commitment Mark has devoted to reconciliation and Constitutional Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians over many years has placed him at the centre of national debate, and earned him respect and trust across the reconciliation and self-determination movement.
Alongside Mark, our dedicated Public Interest Partner, Peter Seidel, who has worked closely with Aboriginal communities for almost three decades, has helped shape a culture of commitment that is collectively owned across the firm.
We have always recognised that for us to help to achieve reconciliation in this country, our best work is done by utilising our legal expertise to support Indigenous peoples in their endeavours. Not to imagine we are in any way qualified to lead the way, but to walk side by side and to bear witness, in solidarity.
In 2008, Arnold Bloch Leibler was the first law firm in the country to develop a Reconciliation Action Plan. In 2021, recognising that for many Indigenous Australians, the language of reconciliation no longer best captures the imperative of self-determination, we launched the ABL Indigenous Solidarity Network Statement of Commitment, which encompasses what we do, how we do it and our ongoing dedication to working in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to achieve true reconciliation for the benefit of the nation as a whole.
Uluru Statement from the Heart
Arnold Bloch Leibler accepts the invitation contained in the Uluru Statement from the Heart to walk together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in a movement of the Australian people for a better future.
